The site

The site includes Castle Hill (about 16 acres) and two fields, one with allotments and one with an orchard.

The whole site is open to the public and visitors are welcome. The hill is quite steep in places, and often muddy. We have provided some paths, but much of the hill is just woodland and meadow with no paths. Explore as you wish.

PLEASE walk carefully! Treat it as open country and beware of steep slopes. Do not climb fences, they may be there for your protection.

Dogs are welcome, but PLEASE collect and remove the poo! If sheep are present then please have your dog on its lead.

Getting here –

By Rail:

We are on the Heart of Wales Line (Swansea to Shrewsbury) – alight at Knucklas Station; and train information is here. From the station, walk down the road and turn left, pass right of the pub, and after crossing the stream bridge bear right and the entrance is on your left.

By Road:

The post code is LD7 1PR. (You can get directions by clicking on the mark on the map above and then scrolling down to see “Directions to”, click it and enter your departure point.)

Travel 2 miles (3.2km) west from Knighton (Powys) on the B4355 Newtown road. Turn left into Knucklas village.

  • There is no parking on site and very little roadside parking. Cars may use the Community Centre car park, about 300 yards away, near the railway station; see map above or look here for directions (Turn into Glyndwr, just in front of the pub, and follow the road round past the station). Once parked, walk back to the pub, pass right of it, follow the road over the little bridge and right, and immediately look for the entrance on your left.

Contact us to arrange a guided tour for your group or school.

We look forward to seeing you here!

Information about the village and it’s facilities –

There are two B&B in the village centre (click to see their web site):

The Castle Inn

The village web site is here: Knucklas village information with lots of information about local facilities.

The railway station is close to the famous 13 arch viaduct; about one mile from Offas Dyke Path and (Owain) Glyndwr’s Way; and the Heart of Wales Line trail. Also we are on the Radnor Ring circular cycle route and near the Jack Mytton horse trail in Shropshire.
