Family allotment club
Allotment Club
The first Family Allotment Club was held on the 5th April and was well attended. Potatoes, onions and peas were planted as well as wild flower seeds in the new Wild Garden. The theme for this year’s club is about increasing the wild spaces for many of the creatures that no longer have secure habitats in which to survive. In this country our wild flower meadows, hedgerows, ponds and marsh lands are fast disappearing and we want to do our small part to help restore the balance. So let’s hope we will see more wild flowers, birds, butterflies, bees, ladybirds, frogs, toads and many more little creatures in the allotment area. They all play a very important part in creating a balanced and diverse ecosystem that enables us to grow a plentiful supply of healthy fruit and vegetables for our community, without resorting to the use of damaging chemicals.
The allotment club will be held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month until the end of September. There are only a few spaces left so contact Siggy on 01547 528223 if you are interested in coming along with your children.
